RULES & REGULATIONS
JUDGING CRITERIA
Each division will consist of three judges and one technical judge. The Judges will score the teams according to the judging categories based on a scale of 100 point system. A total of 300 points.

JUDGING PROCEDURES
The judges for the competition will be appointed at the sole discretion of State Dance Championship. There will be three officiating judges and one technical deduction judge assigned to each team. The judges will score the teams using a 100 point system. The judges' scores will be added together to determine the overall team score.
TECHNICAL DEDUCTIONS
Deductions are based on a – (5) five point system and may include over limit on minutes allotted to compete, missing costumes, poms, shoes etc. Profanity in music/choreography.
SCORES AND RANKINGS
Individual score sheets are for the exclusive use of each judge. Each judge has the responsibility and authority to review and submit his or her final scores and rankings prior to the final tally of the scores for all teams. Score sheets will be available only to sponsors, choreographers and/or directors at the conclusion of the competition. No scores or rankings will be given over the phone. Excel spreadsheet of all team division scores will be available online via SDC website the following day.
RULES AND PROCEDURES:
Any questions concerning the rules or procedures of the competition will be handled exclusively by the sponsor/choreographer and/or director of the team and will be directed to the Competition Directors.
All questions should be addressed prior to the day of competition.
And questions concerning your team's performance or any other team's performance should be made to the Competition Directors immediately after the team's performance and/or following the outcome of the competition.
Teams may NOT use the same choreography to enter two different divisions in the same day of competition.
UNFORSEEN CIRCUMSTANCES
If, in the opinion of the competition officials, a team's routine is interrupted because of failure of the competition equipment, facilities, or other factors attributable to the competition rather than the team, the team affected should STOP the routine. The team will be allowed to perform the routine from the beginning. The degree and effect of the interruption will be determined by the competition officials.
ROUTINE INTERRUPTION
In the event a team's routine is interrupted because of failure of the team's own equipment, the team must either continue the routine or withdraw from the competition.
The competition officials will determine if the team will be allowed to perform at a later time. If decided by the officials, the team will perform the routine again in its entirety, but will be evaluated only from the point where the interruption occurred.
INJURY
The only persons that may stop a routine for an injury are 1. Competition officials, 2. Sponsors/Choreographer and/or Directors, 3. An injured dancer on the team. The competition officials will determine if the team will be allowed to perform at a later time. If the competition officials allow a routine to be performed at a later time, the spot in the schedule where the re-performance is to take place is at the sole discretion of the competition officials. The team may perform the routine again in its entirety.
The injured dancer/participant that wishes to perform may not return to the competition floor unless:
1. The competition officials receive clearance from the medical personnel, parent (if present) and the sponsor/choreographer and/or director of team.
2. If medical personnel does not clear the participant, the participant can only return to
The competition if a parent or legal guardian in attendance signs a return to participation waiver form.
SPORTSMANSHIP
All participants agree to conduct themselves in a manner displaying good sportsmanship throughout the competition with positive presentation upon entry and exit from the performance area as well as throughout the routine. The sponsor and choreographer and/or director of each team is responsible for seeing the team members, parents and other persons affiliated with the team conduct themselves accordingly. In the event of a severe case of unsportsmanlike conduct are grounds for disqualifications.
JUDGES DECISIONS
By participating in this competition, each team agrees that all decisions by the judges will be final and will not be subject for review. Each team acknowledges the necessity for the judges to make prompt and fair decisions in this competition and each team therefore expressly waives any legal, equitable, administrative or procedural review of such decisions.

Solo/Duets/Trios Dancers will have a maximum of (1 1/2) one and a half minutes to demonstrate their style and expertise.
Auxiliary Dance Teams will have a maximum of (3) three minutes to demonstrate their style and expertise.
Auxiliary Stand Teams will have a maximum of (2 1/2) one and half minutes to demonstrate their style and expertise.
Dance Teams will have a maximum of (3) three minutes to demonstrate their style and expertise.
Performing Arts Groups will have a maximum of (3) three minutes to demonstrate their style and expertise.
In order to keep the competition on time, teams must enter the performance floor as quickly as possible. Teams will have limited time to enter the floor and start their routine. Elaborate choreographed entrances is not advised as this can run into your allotted dance time required. Please do not choreograph excessive entrances, as this can result in 5 point penalty.
MUSIC
CHOREOGRAPHY AND COSTUMING
PROPS
Props are allowed. A prop can be defined as anything that you dance with that is not attached to your costume. Articles of clothing may be taken off;
TUMBLING, TRICKS AND DANCE LIFTS
It is highly recommended that you send in a video of any difficult tumbling, tricks or lifts to SDC Committee for review. This can be done by submitting a DVD or via email via our website.
AUXILIARY STANDS RULES
Stands up to 3 mins no less than 1 ½ min routines
To live drum Cadence no music allowed
(Drum cadence will be provided by GHS State Dance)
HBCU Style, Not a battle
Teams will perform one at a time
Toe touches are allowed,
Leg extensions allowed
Kicks allowed
Turns are allowed
Full Sequence pick ups allowed
No Cartwheels, no round off
No Death Drops
No Donkey drops
No props
**All Stands are preferable standing and no floor works**
Format of Stands Competition: Teams will come out to be judged one at a time, teams will only be judged once. Then teams will then come out in groups of threes for an exhibition, free for all for 1 ½ mins., no judging at this time, then exits stage.

Top 3 Highest Score : - This award is giving to teams with top highest scores from 3rd place to 1st place.
Overall Top Score :1ST PLACE AND DIVISION STATE TITLE (BOTH STANDS AND DANCE COMBINED SCORES)
*If divisions have less than 10 schools competing in small and large then the overall top score will be the highest from both divisions.
**TEAM PARTICIPANTS**
There are no limitations as to the amount of division a school competes in. Participants must be a dancer for that division full time during the academic school year. For example: If your team competes in Auxiliary Dance and Dance divisions, so long as the dancers are in the auxiliary dance team during football season and also on the dance team during basketball season can he/she participate in both divisions. Teams cannot pull dancers from either divisions for the sole purpose of competition ONLY!
If Dancers are in the Performing Arts program as well as Dance Team and/or Auxiliary dance team throughout the year then dancer is allowed to enter in both divisions.
Participants must attend the high school in which they are competing with to compete at SDC.
In the event that a dancer or team drops out of the competition after the registration deadline, Refunds will not be issued. A credit towards next years competition maybe issued to dancer or team. Refunds for registration will not be issued two weeks before the competition.
